Need some tips on best range extender in use out there. Have AT&T U-Verse (only option right now) and lately have had to replace the router. AT&T Gives Away WiFi Extenders to Subs on Fastest Broadband Tiers. AirTies also announced some stats based on aggregated data from those deployments, noting that the average home has more than seven WiFi-connected devices, and the average daily connection time per WiFi device is ten hours. About 45% of devices use only 2.4 GHz WiFi channels.
AT&T U-verse is a connectivity package that provides consumers digital TV, landline telephone service and Internet connectivity all over a single connection to the home. Banana screen 1.2.3 download free. The standard Internet connectivity package includes a wireless network router, which also may act as the modem connecting the home to the AT&T U-verse service. Thus you can't replace it outright with your own wireless router, such as a Linksys. However, you can use your Linksys as a wireless bridge to extend connectivity to other parts of your home with some configuration settings allowing it to work with the existing router.
Step 1
Power on the Linksys router, but don't plug it into your home network. Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your computer and the other end into one of the Ethernet ports on the back of the Linksys. These ports are clearly labeled 'Ethernet' and are outlined in blue color.
Step 2
Disable the wireless Internet connection on your laptop, if you're using your laptop to connect to the Linksys as well. This is important because you must be connected only to the Linksys, and the wireless connection will get in the way of your efforts.
Step 3
Open your Web browser and type 'http://192.168.1.1' into the address bar and hit 'Enter' to access the Linksys router login screen for the configuration menu. Log in to the router using your user name and password. If you don't remember this information, you can reset the router to factory defaults by pressing the 'Reset' button, located on the bottom of the router, for five to 10 seconds until the LEDs on the router blink. The default login method is to leave the user name field blank and type 'admin' into the password field. Click 'Log In.'
Step 4
Click on the 'Setup' tab, and then click on 'Basic Setup.' Click on 'Disabled' in the 'DHCP Server' line in the middle of the screen. Click 'Save Settings' at the bottom of the screen.
Step 5
Click on the 'Setup' tab to return to the setup menu. Enter '192.168.1.250' into the 'LAN IP' address field and click 'Save Settings.' This ensures your Linksys router's IP address corresponds to the AT&T wireless router's subnet address. Almost all home subnets have the address scheme 192.168.1.xxx, where xxx is incremented and allocated to each computer or device that connects to your network. In this case, you give your Linksys router an address that's not likely to interfere with your network, and 192.168.1.250 is usually safe.
Step 6
Unplug both routers to power them off. Connect a standard Ethernet cable to one of the AT&T router standard Ethernet ports, usually labelled 'Ethernet' or 'Computer') and connect the other end to the 'Internet' connection of the Linksys router, which is labelled 'Internet' and is outlined in yellow color.
Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your laptop or PC to the Linksys router. Re-enable wireless network service on your laptop. Power up the routers.
Tip
- Even if you don't have a Linksys router, the setup process is similar. Just log in to the configuration menu of your router, disable DHCP, and ensure the router's IP address matches the existing subnet.

Best wifi range extender?Posted by Brick67 on 2/14/17 at 6:54 pm
Need some tips on best range extender in use out there. Have AT&T U-Verse (only option right now) and lately have had to replace the router they originally set me up with and now the router's friggin signal is intermittent all week. Wondering if I need new/better range extenders than what I have or if there has been service issues in the area. Customer service can't tell me if there is any area outage. Seems with these you get what you pay for but I could be wrong. Anyone had good luck with Netgear or Linksys or experiencing spotty outages this week in the greater Athens, GA area?

And a Netgear N600 Desktop WiFi Range Extender if you still need an extender.

I'm a huge fan of the extenders that run through your power lines.
Best way I can describe it is as this:
Energy runs on a different 'frequency' than WiFi. So, once you set up one of these, it's as if your extender is directly connected to the router, giving you full range. You can find these on Amazon. They're called power line range extenders. Just go with a name brand, like a linksys and you'll be golden.
Make sure you plug the adapter into the same circuit though, otherwise, obviously, it'll never get the wifi

Replace the (supposedly top of their line) AT&T router they just installed with the Nighthawk or add the Nighthawk?

FYI. These aren't true wifi extenders as extenders should be avoided as most will cut your wifi bandwidth in half.
It's a 2 in 1 device. It's a powerline networking adapter with a built in wifi access point. The powerline adapter gives you an ethernet hard line to your router through your electrical wiring. The access point provides a new wifi zone to connect to.
Powerline networking (or running ur own CAT6) + wifi access point is the best way to solve wifi coverage issues. Also, the powerline now gives u the option to hardwire things that really need it (PC, consoles, media devices) which is always better than wifi.

Unifi is pretty awesome. Not sure if it's considered an extender or not, it plugs into your router. I bought mine after reading about it on this board. Very happy with it.

Just bought Google wifi. It's a mesh system and it's expensive but I had a gift card. So I'll let you know how that turns out.

AT&T U-verse internet was unreliable at my home. Before you shell out $100 plus on an extender you should make sure the router itself is acheiving advertised speeds. Download a speed detection app on your phone and check download speed when a few feet away from the router. If the connection drops frequently (the issue I had) or if the speed is poor then don't waste your money on an extender or mesh network and try to get your money back from AT&T. I never heard of a location that can get AT&T uverse but can't get cable internet (which is superior in every way) unless youre in a big apartment building / dorm that provides you with internet access.
On the other hand if the speed is as advertised adjacent to the router but quickly degrades as you walk away then consider an upgrade to one of the new mesh networks (AmpliFi, Plume, Eero, Google, Orbi). They are a little pricy right now but competition will drive the price down quickly this year I predict. You can also go with an older 'network extender' type device but you will then have two different SSIDs broadcasting in your home and have to manually select the best network to use (from original connected router vs from network extender) as you move around your home.

Get an Access Point; way better than an extender.
NetIS or Ubiquity for home APs. Just be prepared to run cabling to it.

Update:
After putting the Google Wifi points in a direct line of sight and at good distances..my shotgun house now has good coverage.
Its one continuous mesh from the front door to the back door
Our shitty ATT internet hard lined is at best 30 DL and 5 Upload
I had close to these numbers throughout the house on wifi.
I have the Cox guy coming tomorrow to install my 120 DL and 30 UL speed Cox internet..interested to see how that flies over the Google Wifi
So far I'm impressed with the ease and connectivity of this product.
